About us

“Evropa nema alternativu” (English: "No alternative to Europe") is a youth movement which advocates Serbian integration in the EU by:

-    Organizing pro-European campaigns for youth population in both urban and rural areas of Serbia,
-    Monitoring the work of governmental institutions and performing public reactions to their activities,
-    Providing training and education for grass root activist groups,
-    Enhancing international cooperation among youth, especially in the Balkan region.

The movement was formed in January 2008 during GOTV campaign for presidential elections in Serbia, and it first started as an informal network of activists from several Serbian NGOs.

Activities continued in February 2008 after part of Serbian Government put a stop to signing the political agreement with EU. That made the activists of ENA to gather and perform a series of action which generated public pressure on political elite to continue process of Serbia’s integration in EU.

After several mass gatherings and rallies in Belgrade with about 3000 to 5000 participants, series of successful public performances and debates on current political issues with prominent professors and analysts, movement gained considerable media attention. Movement is growing each day and now has a list of more than 4000 active supporters and dozens of activists.

In April, prior to signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia, delegation of ENA visited officials of institutions and organizations from EU and The Netherlands. During this advocacy visit, the activists presented current social and political situation in Serbia, as well as the necessity of signing the SAA and abolishment of visa regime.

From April to May ENA organized pro-European GOTV campaign for parliamentary provincial and local elections Serbia, aiming to show to young people, both in rural as in urban areas, the benefits of Serbia’s integration in the EU. During this campaign, our youth caravan went across the country, organizing debates, concerts, marches and performances.

After the elections, ENA organized public campaign for preventing the nationalist radicals to form a coalition and gain power in the City Assembly of Belgrade. The result of this broad campaign was dismissal of nationalist coalition and election of the pro-democratic and pro-European candidate for Mayor of Serbia’s capital.

The movement’s team members have previously implemented numerous successful joint campaigns as leaders and representatives of different youth organizations, concerning higher education reforms, European integrations, human and minority rights, conscientious objection and youth policy development.
